I will totally admit that I was kinda freaked out and on the fence about using a period cup for years. I can remember a few years ago before they had become very popular and my cousin had gotten one. She had said once you figure out to get it in and out it is the best way to take on your period. Looking at her still thinking this was kinda gross, I decided to stick with tampons or pads. Man, am I kicking myself for not taking her advice several years ago.
After a mix up with my organic pad order, I needed period protection and organic pads are not at every store. Living in the country my selection is Walgreen's (online only purchase), Walmart (online only purchase) and Target (didn't have organic products in store but they had the Saalt Period Cup. Defiantly not settling on anything less then 100% organic cotton for feminine products and since Target is my last option, off I went 30 mins away with extra tissues between my legs, wearing black and praying I don't bleed everywhere. Thank goodness it was the beginning so it was light, day 2 you can forget it.
Literally speed walking into the store grabbing a Saalt Cup and off I went in under 5 mins. Another 30 mins back home, go upstairs, wash my hands and pull out all the instructions. Pulling out the instructions, it was bringing back flashbacks from tampon instructions page, more like a tampon road map lol. After reading the instructions and sanitizing my cup by boiling in hot water on the stove for 7-10 minutes I am ready. Back up stairs I go with clean hands and a clean cup ready to start this big adventure.
Finding my perfect fold method, getting the placement and feel down was not complicated at all. My two folds that worked best are the half fold and the 7 fold, but whatever works for you is what you should go for. Walking out of the bathroom stressed that this is going to leak or be uncomfortable when I move certain ways, my husband comes up and says "Wan't to go out to eat and do some shopping?" Not wanting to say no because of my period, I say yes. Wearing black pants and bringing a change of clothes just in case off we went not even 10 minutes after putting my cup in for the very first time.
Checking every once in a while to see if I was leaking or bleeding through but nothing. After about an hour of nothing, I allowed myself to relax and enjoy our outings, as we don't get very many of them. Once I had taken my period off my mind, the day tuned out great. Totally forgetting about my period and never leaked once. From that day forward I have been nothing but impressed with the Saalt Cup. Unable to feel it, easy to insert, remove and clean the Saalt Cup is my period number one.
If you are on the fence keep reading...
More then 70 percent of women in America use tampons. On average you will go through about 11,000 to 16,000 tampons in your lifetime. You may be shocked to learn that non organic tampons contain harmful chemicals such as phthalats, petroleum, wood fibers, parabens, aluminum salt, fragrances and bleach just to name a few. Yes, you read that correctly it says Bleach. These chemicals among others have been linked to cancer, infections, vaginal dryness and hormonal disturbance. If you don't wear tampons, don't worry pads are just as bad. You can still get an infection like toxic shock from a feminine pad and infections of this manner can become deadly. Yes, unfortunately non-organic feminine pads are filled with insecticides, phthalates, bleach and fragrances. After all the FDA does not require the menstrual hygiene products manufacturers to disclose the ingredients used in their products. Putting your vagina health at the top of your health list even if it is only once month is so important, especially since your vagina is the most absorbent part of your whole body.
Not only will you save a ton of money you will be putting your health first. Using the Saalt Cup you never have to worry about infections, or dryness. Made from 100% medical-grade silicone and dyes that are BPA, latex, and chemical free, and have been tested to ensure biocompatibility. With a life expectancy of 10 years, this Saalt Cup is exactly what you need. Able to be worn for up to 12 hours and doesn't effect your active lifestyle, What!? Did you hear me never pull a string or a super dry tampon, wrap a tampon or feel like your wearing a diaper again. O yeah did I mention the amount of toilet paper you will save also because you no longer need to wrap your products. Sounds like a win win if your ask me. Are you ready to make the switch? If you already have made the switch I would love to hear if you feel the same as me!
