When is the last time you have taken a deep dive into dog food like you have with your skin care and food? No judgment because I have only looked at the bag of dog food just a handful of time.  As I grow I am always wanting to learn and have more knowledge giving me the power to make an educated decision instead of based off a trend!

Before I get into my full review I want to share some knowledge about why fresh is best for dogs as well more about The Farmers Dog

Why Dogs need Fresh Food?

Dogs need fresh food simply because of their health. Just like humans we can live off off canned and processed food but after years and years it usually comes with some health issue. With dogs health warnings start with their coat, skin and gut.

Fresh food is considered "human grade" which according to The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) defines “human-grade food” as being “suitable for human consumption,” meaning all ingredients must be safe for humans to eat. But just like human food just because its fresh or safe doesn't mean its better for the animal.

Here are 6 benefits of using fresh dog food!

  1. Real ingredients
  2. Dog increased playfulness and range of motion
  3. Healthier Gut and smaller poops!
  4. Better Skin & Coats, less skin irritation
  5. Linked to a 20% increase of dogs lifespan
  6. No additives or preservatives

Pet food production in the U.S. is held to alarmingly low safety and quality standards, which are hidden behind loose labeling and marketing regulations.

While the picture on the bag suggests that the brown pellet inside was made with a gorgeous roast chicken breast, the reality can instead be diseased chicken parts, mixed with starchy fillers, and processed at temperatures known to produce carcinogens.

The scary part about this is that the dog food companies can label it premium, natural and even organic with it filled with unwanted ingredients. With standards so low for pet food, going with fresh will be the safest option.

Not all Fresh Food Is Created Equal

Like everything in the world, things are not created equal and pet food is no different. With fresh food for pets becoming more popular more and more brands are testing the waters. With increase in brands on the market comes the increase in highly processed produced fresh food made with unwanted ingredients, mystery meats and fillers. Some fillers you will find in fresh food is wheat, corn, soy, by-products or preservatives.

Avoid these 8 Ingredients:

  1. Melamine
  2. BHA, BHT & Ethoxyquin
  3. Propylene Glycol
  4. Carrageenan
  5. Meat Meal
  6. Food Dyes & Corn Syrup
  7. MSG
  8. Sodium Hexametaphosphate

How The Farmers Dog's Work

Now that we have had a little education, lets talk about how The Farmers Dog Works! The whole process is so easy you will be kicking yourself you didn't do it earlier. To get started you head to The Farmers Dog website and begin entering the information for you and your dog or dogs.

They ask questions like the weight, breed, age, activity level, food allergies, weight goals for the dog if any and things like that. After you finish the questionnaire you are presented your dog food all picked out and ready for your box. The whole online process is such a breeze.

Once you get your box you will want to store the food in the freezer for up to 4 months. Inside you box you get prepackage portions for your dog to last 2 weeks as well as feeding guide and ingredient panel. The feeding guide is super helpful when making the transition from the current pets food to The Farmers Dog. The whole transition process takes 2 weeks to complete and then by the time your next box shows up you will be ready to begin feeding them everyday with The Farmers Dog.

My Review

When looking for a fresh food option we were looking for clean ingredients, something that shipped to us because not everything does and a brand that I wanted to support. The Farmers Dog checked all those boxes and are very pleased to have chosen them.

One of my favorite features from The Farmers Dog is how the pets food comes pre packaged portions with the dog's name on it! For us that's nice because we have two dogs that get different amount of food per feed. Life is hectic enough that I can easy feed them without having to get a scale out and weight everything. The other thing I like is when switching to a fresh diet the dogs waste is nothing compared to before. You will notice yourself picking up less waste daily and then see how the overall appearance looks better. Yes I know we are talking about dog poop but its a huge clue at what's going on inside their bodies.

Our one dog is so picky that she will go days without eating if you don't get her the food she likes. I was surprise and happy when she absolutely loved it, like scarfed it down lol. The Farmers Dog was a hit and it can be a hit for you and your dog! Take advantage of this deal for 50% off your first box, no code needed just click here and start the swap today.
