Keeping yourself safe from germs has never been more important than right now. No matter how effect washing your hands may be, if you are out and about with no place to wash hands, hand sanitizer comes to play. Lately it seems either the stores are out of stock or the FDA has added more hand sanitizers to the recall list than I am comfortable with! Making your own hand sanitizer using ingredients that are clean, not going to cause dryness or end up on the recall list seems like a great choice to me. With that being said, I have created a Nontoxic Hand Sanitizer as well as Nontoxic Hand Soap recipes to allow you to stay safe today!

Nontoxic Hand Sanitizer

What You Need:

  • Aloe Vera Gel (Should be Clear and liquid)
  • Antibacterial Essential Oil Some are(optional)
    • Eucalyptus
    • Lavender
    • Lemon
    • Lemongrass
    • Orange
    • Peppermint
    • Rosemary
    • Tea Tree
  • Distilled Water
  • Rubbing Alcohol at least 70% (Optional, Creates a Stronger Germ Fighting Product)
  • Organic Witch Hazel (Use if not using Rubbing Alcohol)
  • Vitamin E Oil (Optional)
  • 1/4 Cup Measuring Cup
  • Glass Measuring Cup for Mixing or Small Glass Bowl (Avoid Plastic)
  • Tablespoon Measuring Spoon
  • 2 oz Glass Bottle with Treatment Pump Top

Recipe:

  • 1/4 Cup Aloe Vera Gel
  • 20 Drops of Essential Oil (I like to use what below but you can use what you have or like!)
    • 10 drops lavender
    • 5 drops of lemongrass
    • 5 drops rosemary
  • 1 Tablespoon of Rubbing Alcohol or Organic Witch Hazel
  • 2 Drops of Vitamin E Oil (Optional)
  • 1 Tablespoon of Distilled Water (use if needed)

How to Make:

  • Measure out and pour each ingredient into a glass measuring cup. Using a cup reduces dishes as you don't need the 1/4 cup but it also makes pouring the product into the  bottle so much easier, also avoid using plastic!
  • Stir well and pour into bottle.
  • Close and store in cool place. Be sure to mark the bottom of the bottle when you made it so that you will know when it expires!
  • Shelf Life 4 Months

  • 12 Drops of Essential Oil (optional)

How to Make:

  • Add Essential Oil (Optional)

Now you are ready to have soft clean hands with no harsh ingredients. If you may be wondering why I have listed distilled water and if that is necessary? Tap water and bottle water have minerals and chemicals in them which can cause reactions within the product. The hand soap separates causing the soap to sit on top of the water and also decreases the shelf life by 3 months! Let me know if you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear how they turned out for you!
