Last month I decided to give Young Living a try, not because I was looking to sell but more to compare with what I have been using for three years. I will be comparing to Mountain Rose Herbs! These are all my opinions and true thoughts. Okay, so you are still reading wondering if I liked it or not, well the simple answer is no but there is more into why I choose not to continue using Young Living. Let's break it down from price, quality and clean claims!
Price Break Down
First let's discuss price, after all staying on your budget and within your means is important, especially when you choose to live a cleaner lifestyle. Things are more expensive so it is important to invest in your health with the right products at the right price. Below you will find essential oil prices, I just listed the most popular to give you choices that you are all already using!
Essential Oil Name
|Young Living Essential Oil Price 2020||Mountain Rose Herbs Essential Prices 2020|
|Basil||15 ml $25.50||15 ml $8.50|
|Clove||15 ml $15.75||15 ml $8.00|
|Eucalyptus||15 ml $14.75||15 ml $4.50|
|Geranium||15 ml $42.50||15 ml $20.75|
|Lavender||15 ml $24.25||15 ml $13.25|
|Lemon||15 ml $11.50||15 ml $7.25|
|Orange||15 ml $11.00||15 ml $4.75|
|Rosemary||15 ml $16.00||15 ml $8.00|
|Tea Tree||15 ml $26.75||15 ml $8.00|
|Ylang Ylang||15 ml $42.00||15 ml $15.00|
Seeing the prices side by side is really helpful on the comparison, it also saves time from having to flip from tab to tab! While this is only a few examples, you can get the comparison factor on price. Young Living is almost double on everything compared to Mountain Rose and Young Living isn't even USDA certified organic whereas Mountain rose is!
If I haven't talked about it enough, quality matters more than a lot of things. I discovered this for myself and discovered that higher quality results in better products hands down! My go to comparison for people to test this out is to purchase a cheap coconut oil as well as high quality organic coconut oil. Upon testing you will discover that the cheap oil leaves your skin extremely greasy, your food taste very artificially and the texture is off. If your tried it, I would love to hear your thoughts! Okay back to young living, the sales pitch states seed to seal promise with ethically sourced and clean ingredients but do not carry an organic or non-gmo seal. While I understand the seals don't always mean clean but when it comes to essential oils, organic and non-gmo seals matter. Due to the lack to regulation, not all essential oils are created equal or are what they claim to be. The perfect test for this is to take a white piece of paper and drop a few drops of essential oil onto the paper. Allow it to dry and come back and check on it, if you can see where the oils were dropped it is not a pure oil. The results you are looking for are nothing, the paper should look like nothing was every put on it. Another important reason to use a high quality essential oil is because you are using it internally, topical and are replacing traditional medicine. To get the maximum relief, I highly recommend Mountain Rose Herbs. I also did notice when diffusing that Young Living oils would leave a light film on the table whereas Mountain Rose left nothing.
Not talking about the blended scents, single essential oils I was very disappointing. The Young Living Essential Oils were very strong for me and over powering. Almost like a chemical scent, not natural to me. Before you comment, living clean has been over three years so my nose has adjusted very well to super strong perfume scents. The three scents I compared were Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon thinking that these should smell the same. For me the lavender from Mountain Rose is more natural smelling where as the Young Living was more fragrance scented. Same went for the other two and the peppermint from Young Living was so strong my eyes were watering and burning :( Mountain Rose came out on top for me!
This right here is the biggest reason I will not support Young Living or any of its brand names under it! I have to trust an entire brand so the first thing I explored is everything a brand sells to get a feel of how clean and nontoxic they are. I also look to see if they are being eco friendly, clean ingredients and just all around good products. When I ordered my kit I received a Free Lemon Foaming Hand Wash from Young Living right away I looked at the ingredient panel and this is what I found: Water, Decyl glucoside, Alcohol denat., Cetyl hydroxyethylcellulose, Cananga odorata† (Ylang ylang) flower oil, Eucalyptus globulus† leaf oil, Backhousia citriodora† (Lemon myrtle) leaf oil, Citrus limon† (Lemon) peel oil, Mentha spicata† (Spearmint) leaf extract, Cinnamomum cassia oil, Glycerin, Sodium hydroxide, Ginkgo biloba leaf extract, Camellia sinensis leaf extract, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice powder, Tocopherol, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil, Citric acid
Not only am I not a fan of denatured alcohol, I'm surprised to not see coconut or olive oil. The scent was not pleasant, the kids even made a comment and was drying for the skin. Can you guess how much they charge for this regular size bottle? $19.41 Yes you read that correct, almost $20 for a foaming hand wash that is not created with any certified organic ingredients, has alcohol and causes dryness! Moving forward, I went to my trusted source ewg.org and ewg.org/skindeep and started searching the brands. Learning that there rating is a 5 and have some ingredients within there products that ewg rates as a 9! 9 is the worst 0 is the best so that you can understand the numbers! Me personally I don't like to go above a 3 so this brand is not as clean as they claim. I am a firm believer that your brand should represent your believes throughout the entire brand, from your products to products you sell.
These are my options and values, I understand everyone lives a different level of clean! It is my mission to give you the most honest review so I can help you save money and time.
